A violin school that makes it fun and easy for your child to learn to play.
Being able to play the violin is a gift your child can enjoy for the rest of their life. And our teaching method has simplified its complexity so that your child can quickly master the basics, and then move on to more sophisticated skills and pieces when they’re ready.
Put simply, our teaching method means that your child can learn to play some simple and easy pieces within a handful of lessons. That’s because we simplify the process by removing the need for them to learn to read music which allows them to concentrate solely on the pleasure of learning to play.
The Bellini method has been inspired by the way children respond to colours, numbers and shapes – and it is built upon these simple principles.
When you think about it, we all learn to speak before we learn to read. The Bellini method works in the same way. We teach our students how to play first – and then, once they’ve mastered some of the basics, (and, learned to enjoy the violin) – they’re ready to learn to read formal music.
Best of all, the Bellini method integrates easily with formal music training.
When a student is ready to learn to read music, the grounding they’ve received through the Bellini method makes it easy. In fact all of the music in the Bellini books, ‘Violin with Colours and Numbers’, Volumes 1 and 2, and 'Violin with Colours and Numbers’ in traditional Chinese include the formal music score along with Bellini’s colours, numbers and shapes method. Students can therefore easily see the correlation between the methods, and step up to the demands of the formal approach.
The books include dozens of children’s favourite songs set out using the Bellini method’s colours, numbers and shapes approach, which means the student will be playing songs almost straight away.
When it’s fun, it’s easier to learn.
“My child had been having traditional violin lessons for 6 months and still couldn’t play any tunes. Then we changed to Ivan, and after one lesson using his Bellini method, she came home and played ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.’ Needless to say, she was delighted with herself, and for the first time, she was looking forward to her next lesson.” Mother of Shay, aged 6.
The Bellini method was created by Ivan Smith, a renowned performer and teacher of the violin and cello, who has trained in some of the world’s most prestigious academies and performed internationally.
Ivan recognised that when something is a struggle, it’s harder to enjoy it. The Bellini method removes the difficulty and reintroduces the joy back into being a violin beginner.
The Bellini method takes out the hardest parts (learning to read music) and allows new students to play almost straight away – which of course is the fun part!
The Bellini method of colours, numbers and shapes is easy for the youngest of students to engage with quickly.
Before you know it, they will be able to play for you, and enjoy it. And this is a gift they will have for all their life.
